Windfall Geotek (TSX.V: WIN) – A Path to Discoveries, The Metanor Resources, Barry Gold Project

Windfall Geotek (TSX.V: WIN) has been providing Artificial Intelligence Analysis, using the Computer Aided Resources Detection System (CARDS) for exploration companies worldwide for over 15 years. During that time they have worked on more than 85 different projects and are the world leaders in AI Exploration. As with any machine learning, the more information you run through the system, the smarter it gets and this is why Windfall will remain at the top of this sector for many years to come. With people turning to technology, now more than ever, the CARDS system is very quickly becoming a sought after geophysical tool that exploration companies are utilizing to save time and money. While many mining and exploration companies still have an old school mentality and prefer grass roots exploration, it is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore the value of AI as an added exploration tool. The fact is this technology can save explorers time and efforts by focusing in on high priority targets, as well as millions in exploration costs.

Over the next several months we will be highlighting Windfall Geotek discoveries one by one and following up on what came of the targets that were provided by the company. For this first write up, we’ll look back to the begining when they were still operating under DIAGNOS and signed one of their first contracts with Metanor Resources.

Metanor Resources – The Barry Gold Project, 2009

The Barry gold deposits are located in the municipality of Senneterre in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region of Quebec, 100 km east of Lebel-sur-Quevillon and 180 km southwest of Chibougamau. The Past producing Bachelor mine property was the focal point of this project with the intentio to expand the operation beyond the known deposit and the CARDS system did just that. At the time, the project was owned and operated by Metanor Resources but they have since sold the property to Bonterra after many years of success on the property.

Metanor first connected with DIAGNOS (Windfall Geotek) in the fall of 2009, when Ron Perry (director of Metanor at the time) happened to meet Michel Fontaine, CEO of Windfall Geotek at the Cambridge show in Vancouver. Michel sold Ron on the idea of using AI to delineate targets on the property and Ron then brought the idea to Andre Tremblay, V.P of exploration at the time and proposed to use the CARDS technology on their property.

News release

Local model on Metanor Resources Barry gold project

Quebec, Canada – November 18th, 2009 – DIAGNOS inc. (“DIAGNOS” or “the Corporation”) (TSX Venture: ADK), a leader in the use of artificial intelligence and advanced knowledge extraction techniques, announced today that its CARDS (Computer Aided Resources Detection System) technology will be used for the creation of a local signature model targeting the auriferous potential of the Barry property and surrounding areas of Metanor Resources inc. (“Metanor”) (TSX Venture: MTO). The service and the right to use the targets provided by CARDS are for a fee of $60,000.

The Barry gold deposit is located in the Urban-Barry greenstone belt approximately 65 km southeast of the Bachelor Lake mine. The Urban-Barry area is the site of renewed interest following the release of Noront Resources Ltd drilling results which intersected 800.1 to 1,792.9 g/t over 4.9 m (Noront’s press release of December 1st, 2006) and 27.3 g/t over 14.4m (Noront’s press release of June 8th, 2006). In September 2009, Metanor intersected a zone of 9.24 g/t over 33 m, including 13.38 g/t over 22.5 m (Metanor’s press release of September 23rd, 2009). Previous drilling by Metanor also confirmed the potential of the deformation corridor on the Barry property.

Based on results obtained from a regional model generated in 2006 covering the majority of the Abitibi region, DIAGNOS identified the above mentioned zones within the Urban-Barry area. Additional mineralized zones were identified for their gold and base metal potential and await field exploration.

About DIAGNOS

Founded in 1998, DIAGNOS is a publicly traded Canadian corporation (TSX: ADK), with a mission to commercialize technologies combining contextual imaging and traditional data mining thereby improving decision making processes. DIAGNOS offers products, services, and solutions to clients in a variety offields including natural resources, healthcare, and entertainment.

Target Validation

The targets were provided to Metanor (See figure 1) within a few months and immediately the company went to work on validating them. The CARDS system was successful in identifying an area that had no prior indications of gold just 2.5 kilometers west of the Bachelor Lake mill on the Hewfran claim blocks. They also discovered and area not far from the mill to the south which is now the Moroy Zone and connects to the bachelor underground mine through a series of connected shears. (see figure 3)

Figure 1 CARDS Targets

The following year, after some exploration on the property, Metanor made an announcement of some impressive samples from DIAGNOS Targets only a few kilometers to the west of the Bachelor Deposit and another location to the south of the tailings pond.

(See the following news release for more information)

Impressive results of gold in a new undiscovered zone at Bachelor/Hewfran

Brossard, Quebec – November 2nd, 2010 – DIAGNOS inc. (“DIAGNOS” or “the Corporation”) (TSX Venture: ADK), a leader in the use of artificial intelligence and advanced knowledge extraction techniques, announced today, as mentioned in a press release from Metanor Resources (“METANOR”) dated today November 2, 2010, impressive results on the CARDS gold targets on a potential gold zone (Zone 3) commencing at surface situated 2.0 km from the Bachelor Lake Mill and the grab samples greater than 10 g/t were found only 2 to 10m from the road leading to the mill.

This new mineralized zone is composed of quartz veins in an East-West orientated shear zone. The best results obtained were as follows:

  • Sample # 867355: 11.05 g/t Au;
  • Sample # 867356: 11.03 g/t Au;
  • Sample # 867359: 14.80 g/t Au.

This discovery was made using CARDS technology. DIAGNOS was mandated to conduct exploration on the identified targets using our proprietary CARDS system. Further exploration work is expected to follow the extension of this structure.

Analyses were performed by fire assay at the Bachelor Mine laboratory with eventual verification of some samples at the ALS Assay Laboratory in Val-d’Or, Quebec.

Mr. André Tremblay, P Eng. of Metanor Resources Inc., is the qualified person pursuant to National Instrument 43-101 and supervised the technical information presented in the news release.

About DIAGNOS

Founded in 1998, DIAGNOS is a publicly traded Canadian corporation with a mission to commercialize technologies combining contextual imaging and traditional data mining thereby improving decision making processes. DIAGNOS offers products, services, and solutions to clients in a variety of fields including natural resources, healthcare, and entertainment.

We caught up with Ron Perry (director of Metanor at the time) and here is what he had to say about the technology and the successful application of CARDS on the Metanor land package.

Continued Exploration and Validation

A diamond drilling program carried out by Metanor in 2010 investigated the gold zone over a horizontal distance of 250 m and to a vertical depth of 80 m. The best gold intersections associated with pyrite-rich zones were 2.42 g/t Au over 2.40 m (HW-10-03), 8.48 g/t Au over 2.65 m (HW-10-05), 2.06 g/t Au over 1.05 m (HW-10-10), 2.10 g/t Au over 1.15 m (HW-10-12) 4.04 g/t Au over 0.95 m (HW-10-17) and 3.87 g/t Au over 2.50 m (HW-10-22) (Press Release of May 10, 2011)

Then in 2012, an induced polarization (IP) survey was executed on certain areas of Bachelor-Hewfran properties, which identified several east-west to east-south-east anomalies that appeared to coincide with gold structures similar to those hosted in the Bachelor mine. Some of these anomalies were detected in the area to the east of the O’Brien pluton and are extending in the eastern extensions of structures intersected in previous drill holes that have intersected gold intersections of 13.7 g / t Au over 1.35 m (hole 95-07), 4.87 g / t Au over 3.3 m (hole 82-40) and 41.1 g / t Au over 1.0 m (hole 87-56) (historical data).

By September of 2013, a drilling program was announced by Metanor, designed to investigate the Induced Polarization (IP) anomalies detected on the Bachelor property and test the lateral extension and extension at depth of the Diagnos Gold zone discovered in 2010. As the company continued to explore all of the CARDS Targets, the focus shifted to Moroy as the drilling results were showing promise and in 2015 they made a significant discovery when they drilled 26 m @ 10.2 g/t. (See figure 2)

Figure 2

The Moroy Deposit

Today, The Moroy deposit is defined by surface, underground drilling and through underground development. The Measured and indicated resources at Moroy are 667,000 t @ 5.17 g/t for 111,00 oz and inferred resources are 396,000 t @ 4.32 g/t for 55,000 oz .

Figure 3 Moroy Deposit
Figure 4

Windfall’s discovery of the Moroy deposit highlighted the potential of the property and expanded the known footprint of the existing mine while encouraging additional exploration. The deposits remains open at depth allowing for continued upside potential as it appears that the Bachelor deposit and Moroy come together at depth in the M4 Zone. Bonterra is currently focused on extending the Moroy and Bachelor lake deposits at depth, while simultaneously planning a mill expansion from 800 – 2,400 tpd, scheduled to be completed by sometime in 2022-2023.

Conclusion

The CARDS system made this operation possible by finding targets previously unidentified despite the proximity to the operating mine. CARDS proprietary algorithms are undervalued and under utilized tool in exploration today. Almost every project they have worked on has been successful in identifying good targets and many have gone on to produce for their respective companies. It is our belief that in the coming years Windfall Geotek will be at the forefront of many new discoveries as explorers are looking for new ways to advance their projects in effective and cost efficient manner.
